1st-6th Grade Girls

Girls in Action^® (GA^®) is a missions discipleship organization for girls. Every girl in grades 1–6 can be a part of GA! Through GA, girls learn about, pray for, give to, and do missions work. They also make new friends and have lots of fun!

1st-6th Grade Boys

Royal Ambassadors (RAs) is a Bible-centered, church-based, Southern Baptist mission education organization for boys in grades 1-6.

WHY THE NAME ROYAL AMBASSADORS?

The RA Motto, “We are Ambassadors for Christ,” not only gives the organization its name, but also gives the boys and leaders a lifestyle goal. This Motto is taken from Scripture, specifically 2 Corinthians 5:20.

1st-4th Grade Meets in the Attic at 9am and 10:30am on Sunday Mornings

5th & 6th graders meet in the Chair Closet next to the Kitchen

**We encourage parents and children to attend worship together as a family for one hour and then be involved in a Sunday School class for the 2nd hour.

For kids who will have completed 3rd-6th grade by the end of the 2011-2012 school year. We will be going back to Centri-Kid at Shocco Springs. The $50 is to guarantee your spot.

Fish Tales- Children’s Musical- February 26th

All children in Grades 1-6th are invited to participate in this musical. The choirs meet on Wednesdays from 6:45-7:30.

Much to be Thankful For…

Growing up it was a family tradition that as we were traveling in the car, each person would go around and tell one thing he or she was thankful for. This activity had to last from the time we got in the car at our home to the time we reached the destination of my aunt and uncle’s house. While it was only about a 30 minute trip, about 15 minutes into the trip, we would run out of things to be thankful for. For you see, there could be no repeats in our game.

Well, time has passed now and my family no longer travels to that house for Thanksgiving and the game no longer gets played. Sometimes in the “growing up” we forget the simplicity of a child’s mind and heart as he tells what he is thankful for.

A couple of years ago I was given an assignment for Thanksgiving. This assignment was to spend the whole month of November making a “thankful list.” I was suppose to add 3-4 items to this list daily and nothing could be repeated. I guess that would be the adult version of my childhood game. About a week into my adult thankful list, I had to be creative in what I was thankful for. I still remember during that assignment, everyday, God revealed something I had to be thankful for that was different from the previous day. I never ran out of things for my list!

What about you? What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving? How will you as parents and grandparents remind your children of all the things to be thankful for? Maybe it’s as simple as going around the lunch table on Thanksgiving, saying what each person is thankful for (with no repeats) or maybe it’s participating in a service project as a family this week while the kids are out of school.

I challenge you to not just make Thanksgiving about a big meal and your family getting together, but to take some time and thank God for all that He has given you…whether big or small. Everyday find something to be thankful for.

“The gifts given tell a lot about the giver.” What do the gifts God has given you, tell you about the God we serve?

Just FYI…there is a Cars 2 movie coming to theaters at some point in the next year! I love the original Cars movie! This one promises to be just as good and there is another character being introduced as well. Google Cars 2 and watch the surprise trailer. Mater is my absolute favorite character! I have a feeling I’m not the only one who likes him.

Where to start?

Every time I start a new blog (this is only my 3rd time) I find myself wondering what to write about in that first, all-important, post. For those of you that blog, you know the trouble I am speaking of. Do I simply introduce myself or provide more background as to who I am and what the Children’s Ministry is all about. What do I want the purpose of this blog to be? This morning, those are the questions I am wrestling with.

So, in order to answer all those questions, I’m going to include everything in this one post. This time last year I felt God’s urging in my life to begin a new chapter of ministry in a different church than the one in which I was currently serving. Through a lot of prayer He lead me to a wonderful church family at DeSoto Hills. Every day I’m amazed at the gift God has given me by allowing me to serve here. Thank you church family for welcoming me into your lives and allowing me to minister to your children from Day 1.

What’s the point of this blog? This blog is to serve as a resource tool for Parents to obtain information about various events at DeSoto Hills and to check out various parenting articles I find on the internet that I feel are important to pass along to you. Every so often I will give you a glimpse of what God is doing in my life and some things He is teaching me as we journey together.

So, here’s to the journey! Hang on, it’s going to be a wild ride!
